Wonderful format that encourages student involvement; great for homeschooling.

Great science resource for the homeschooling family. This book is sold directly from Pearson as park of a homeschooling kit but lacks the manipulatives and lab supplies necessary to complete it. Despite that frustration, the format and the information contained are a hit with my kids. They love the idea of the workbook being combined into the text. The also love the regularity of the experiments spaced throughout the text. I am especially happy to have a scientifically accurate text to use with them.

Bethany Kris is a phenomenal writer. Every story she releases will forever stay with me. Loved every single book by her, not one have I not liked. The Filthy Marcello's collection features Anton and his three sons Lucian, Giovanni, and Dante. So its four books in one, pretty awesome deal. Nobody messes with the Marcello's, everyone knows that if they do, expect to have a bullet through the head. They own the city, and nobody takes what's there's! This is my favorite series by the Lovely Bethany, and she got me hooked to mafia romance.
A must read series!
Giovanni is my personal favorite. The black sheep, the lone wolf. Sigh just writing this review, makes me want to read his book again.

Mafia Hard.....Good And Filthy

Bethany-Kris has a way of telling a story that immediately captures your attention and draws you in. She has a unique way of twisting the family bond through the intrigue of each Filthy Marcello story. This family structure is unique to Mafia stories. The family is not only strong in their crime circuit but strong as a family. The father and sons have each other's backs. They are four strong...Lucian, Giovanni, Dante, and Antony....and they are filthy!

Lucian's story gives a feel of the family dynamics along with his story. He is the eldest. A strong alpha male who knows what he wants. Once he sets his sights on Jordyn, he is a man on a mission. A mission to protect his family and Jordyn. He is Marcello strong.

Giovanni's story shows us what it is like to be the youngest in the Marcello crime family. He is standoffish to outsiders although he loves the ladies. He does his job as a Capo well. It is what he loves about his life. This is until he meets Kim.

Dante's story is about a shift in the family and how it changes him. He needs to lead the family in his way in the direction he wants. In order to do this, he has to have a woman by his side. Catrina is this woman for him. A partner in all sides of life. She is one of the strongest woman characters I have read in a long time. Dante isn't even ready for how strong she is.

Antony's story gives us background on him, Cecelia and the family. I loved both of them in the prior books, so it was exciting to read their story. The story of how they became filthy. The story of Antony's role in La Cosa Nostra.

This series provides intrigue and suspense. The Marcello family continues to live life as a strong family along with a strong Mafia crew. They are unique in their strength for each other. This is one of my ultimate favorite mafia romance series. Thanks, Bethany-Kris. I love these filthy boys.

Another highly penned mafia family romance; the entire collection

I first heard of Bethany-Kris with her Chicago War series -- another mafia/crime family romantic series. That one followed the members of the famiglia, some of whom were bound by blood; Filthy Marcellos was released first, though, and follows only blood.

I always knew I wanted to continue reading Bethany-Kris's books; she writes the crime family extremely well. So I knew that at some point I would read this story. After the Marcellos made a cameo in Chicago War, though, I knew it had to happen quickly.

I very much enjoyed this family. I loved the fight and the emotion; I loved the broken ones and I loved watching everyone falling and finding what their parents had/have. If crime romance is for you, pick this up. If highly protective alpha men are for you, pick this up.

And if series that morph into new series that follow the next generation? Pick this up.

Because this is a series that's going to keep giving, and I cannot wait.

Your students will own Shakespeare!

I've been using this series for the last seven years and have found it works with almost any age group from Junior High to High School (The lessons could really be adapted for any age). Students are up on their feet, analyzing material, making decisions, having a blast. I read some of the lessons thinking, "No way will my kids go for this." When I challenged myself to try them, they were extremely successful. Shakespeare was never meant to be read sitting still. There are lessons that appear drama based, but these are plays people! (Take this from someone who is not comfortable acting - this is worth the risk.) In order to act out a scene or show subtext, students have to be able to analyze the text and understand it. These lessons guide them through every step! My students felt progressively confident in their ability to understand Shakespeare without my help. On my end-of-the-year survey, 95% of my kids said the Shakespeare Unit was their favorite! At the beginning of the year, it was the unit they feared the most. Try it out!

Experience of a lifetime!

That's what my students told me after I used this book's unit for teaching "A Midsummer Night's Dream" through performance. That was last spring, and I'm about to use it again. "Yes, we've heard all about that!" exclaimed my current Advanced English 11 students with grins and excited anticipation. Even the shy find their niche in this gently encouraging format for understanding and interpreting Shakespeare. I plan to use many of the book's ideas for our upcoming Macbeth unit as well. I am incredibly grateful for this wonderful book! If you are a teacher who wants to avoid the "Play the tape - read along" method of teaching Shakespeare, BUY THIS BOOK!

Note added May 13, 2005: Having used this a second time with my Advanced English 11, I can say that it was MORE successful, they ADORED it, and MSND performance work gave them a very deep understanding of Shakespeare which enabled them to blaze through Macbeth in three weeks - and they loved it, too! This book has opened new doors for me and for my students.

A Wonderful Resource!

I read the last review and had to respond. The reviewer stated that "this isn't drama class." I beg to differ -- a drama unit is drama, and no play is complete simply on the page without bringing it to life in some type of performance. This can be intimidating to a new teacher, but it is no reflection on the outstanding quality of the Shakespeare Set Free books. I have used this book in a ninth grade classroom and found it to be one of the best resources I have ever purchased for classroom use. It is not intended as a generic read-the-scene-answer-the-questions type of shortcut for overwhelmed teachers. It assumes that the teacher can handle the basics and instead offers up some of the most creative and engaging ideas for making the educational experience of studying a Shakespearean play more authentic and memorable. I love this book and the memories that using it with my students have provided for my students and myself. As a classroom teacher of 18 years, I thoroughly recommend it to any teacher who truly wants to bring Shakespeare to life in the classroom.

A few final thoughts about the projects mentioned in the last review: Ask any actor -- the best way to understand a script is to find yourself having to perform it. Not memorize and recite it, but actually perform it and make it real. If students are asked to do this and are coached through the process, they will truly understand the power of Shakespeare's words and drama. And kids will dance an Elizabethan dance wearing a homemade mask if the teacher presents the lesson correctly. Oh, and bribing them with food to eat at the "ball" never hurts, either. And in the end, if nothing else, they will talk about what they did in English class with their buddies at lunch. What are the chances of that happening if we stick to paper and pencil activities alone?

A Bittersweet exchange of letters

There are some books you never thought you would read and when you do, you are only too glad that you did. There have been plenty of such books in my life. They make an appearance when not known to me at all, I may start reading a while later, however when I do, I wonder why I did not earlier. They leave an impression so vivid that I know I will reread the book. It is almost like food you never liked and somehow it seems to grow on you so much that you relish it. This has happened to me quite lately and the book it happened with is, "The Other Side of the Table" by Madhumita Mukherjee.

I never liked novels written in the form of letters. Somehow it did not work for me at all. I tried reading 86 Charing Cross Road, liked it a little and some more, but just left it at that. There have been other books, on similar lines which I did not love or want to go back to. It is not that I do not like reading letters, however reading them in a book format, more so when fictional, does not cut it for me. So when I received a copy of, "The Other Side of the Table" I found it pretty ordinary, till I started reading it and loving it more so, and that almost changed my perception of this form of story-telling.

"The Other Side of the Table" is about, as it always happens in most books, two people and the letters exchanged by them over a couple of years. Uma and Abhi almost got into my skin while reading this book. I remember watching, "Tumhari Amrita" - one of the first plays I had watched and I fell in love with it. This book also reminded me of it to a very large extent. Uma and Abhi are childhood friends. It is surprising that they are childhood friends considering Uma is younger by 10 years and yet that does not matter. The letters are written from 1990 to 1999 and reflect almost everything about those years. Abhi is a surgeon in London. Uma is studying medicine in Calcutta. That in short is the premise of the story.

Why did I love this book compared to the others? I loved the way it was written. At no point, as a reader was I bored and at the same time, I did not feel that the book was way too sentimental, given what happens later (which I will not reveal). The writing is easy and does not veer into medical terms (which it could have) that the reader might not understand. There are issues mentioned in the book like women's rights (to some extent) and yet it is done in a subtle and understated manner.

The book also reminded me of "One Day" by David Nicholls in a very good way and I loved the way I could connect with several other reads in the past due to this one read. Off late, I have started reading a lot of Indian fiction and it is suiting me just fine.

"The Other Side of the Table" is a bittersweet read, somewhat like life. I would definitely recommend this to everyone. A read that will for sure leave you with a smile on your face and maybe that is most required in times such as these.
