A must have for any student of Biblical Hebrew

First, I would like to state that I have yet to read every last page of this book. Much of the material is condensed, and therefore, it's taking sometime for me to go through all the details and form my opinions. However, I would like to say that I have read most of this book, and so far everything that I have read is definately thought provoking, and insightful.

It has been well established by people like Max Muller that there is a petrified philosophy within language. Each people or nation has their own unique social psyche, and this will be reflected in the language(s) of their culture. The ancient Hebrews who wrote the Old Testament were no exception to this.

Bowman attempts in this book to analyze the Hebrew psyche, and understand how the ancient Hebrews understood both time, as well as action, and how they relates to one another. He quotes from numerous scholars in the field of Biblical Hebrew, and quotes numerous examples from the Old Testament to prove his points. He also attemps to explain and demonstrate how the Hebraic mindset is completely different from our own modern-western mindset.

One of the greatest examples in his book is his analysis of time. He demonstrates that the Greeks and other European peoples view time as being something linear, where as the Hebrews appeared to view time as being cyclical. His explanation on the time concept is VERY in-depth, and thought provoking. It will provide much insight for anyone who is willing to take the time to go through the material on the subject.

Im my honest opinion, I do not see how anyone can consider theirself to be an educated student of God's word, and more specifically an educated student of Biblical languages, and not understand the concepts and material presented in this book. I highly recommend it.

PS. I noted that someone stated in another review that Bowman calls Greek thought "static" and Hebraic thought "dynamic", and that this viewpoint is simplistic in the extreme. I would like to state that Bowman does state this at the very beginning of the first chapter, but goes in-depth to prove his points through out the rest of the book. Furthermore, Bowman also stipulated that Greek though only appears to be static, harmonious, and prudent in comparison to Hebrew though, which by comparison appears to be dynamic, vigorous, passionate and explosive in kind. Furthermore, Bowman stated that he regreted using the terms "dynamic" and "static" to label Hebrew and Greek thought since these are terms commonly used in the real of physics and mechanics, but he stated he used them because of how well their meanings are engrained into our psyche and langauge. Therefore, Bowman was not trying to label Greek thought with an insultive label, but rather only explaning things from a comparitive stand point, and if you read the book you will realize that Bowman does not attempt to insult the Greek psyche, but rather feels that the Greek/European mindset forms a complementary unity with Hebraic thought.

Many people who think they are students of the Word content themselves with vernacular translations and/or Strong's Meanings for the OT and NT original languages. Big mistake. Get this book to find out why you have to really delve into the original languages to see why God chose those languages for His Infallible Word. I honestly can't praise this book enough. Wish I had the money to buy thousands of copies of it!

Throughout his life, Magus has experienced phenomena that seemed to support the idea of our living in a much more complex and malleable universe than the average person wishes to believe. Over time, he came to believe that most of the events that fill our lives are closely aligned with the laws of quantum mechanics. The years of his life as brought with them the realization that our world is filled with magic and miracles. It is the kind of magic and miracles which comes from the true quantum nature of the world we live in.'

And it is with this mystical year warmly conversational writing style that Magus Zeta share the concepts of Quantum Sorcery. In his introduction he states, ` The most powerful force in the universe is not gravity , or fusion, or the strong or weak nuclear forces. The most powerful force in the universe is the Observer. Every event that takes place in the universe has a quantum state. Actually, it has an infinite number of possible quantum states, until the Observer does his looking thing. At that instant, all of the possible quantum states, but one disappears, and suddenly the event is made real, at least in this universe.` He goes on to prepare the reader of this book by saying `Using the techniques in this book as a launching pad, one can transfer the control of their world from the dreaming undermind, to the parts of their mind that actually wants something. This book can help the sleeper to awaken, and to become the Quantum Sorcerer they were meant to be!'

Confusing and Difficult to Maneuver Read, with Some Gems of Lucidity

Better have your Quantum Physics and your Magickal Arts Hat on when reading Quantum Sorcery Basics; this is not exactly ‘light’ reading. In fact, you may need to be a ‘very smart mathematician tripping’ [your] ‘brains out on a good hallucinogen’ indeed, to understand it! (Lucky for me I was a Hippie back in the Day.)

To give the author credit, he does an excellent job (in my opinion) of explicating the ‘mechanics’ (so to speak) of the Law of Attraction (the results of Dreaming) or how to ‘create the world you expect,’ or as many so-called New Agers say, ‘your own reality.’

Says Master Zeta: “The mind selects the events it expects…creating the world according to its rules.”

For those of you who are into ritual, Magick might be the way to go in order to bring your dreams to fruition. If you’re more of an egghead, then understanding how Quantum Physics works and how we actually DO draw to us whatever we focus on (intention + emotion) and expect, there’s something here for you, too.

Either way, whatever we focus on through ritual, science or even through our unconscious efforts to bring to us the objects of our dreams (and sometimes our nightmares), you WILL create the reality that you intend; even if unconsciously. Yet, you will reap more preferred results if you focus and guide your intentional process.

In my opinion, although the Quantum Sorcery Basics blurb seems to state pretty much what the book is about – and while I am quite familiar with both Quantum Physics/Mechanics and several of the more esoteric arts –I struggled with assimilating/integrating the two based on the author’s method in order to see clearly how to manifest anything, other than (what appeared to be to me) obvious basics. But then, the author DID say this was Quantum Sorcery BASICS.

For me, however, if the concept lacks clear 1,2,3 instructions that state how a process works or should work, I have difficulty in making it work for me. While this could just be me, I am extremely analytical and prefer more coherent organization which I had a difficult time ascertaining from this book.

So, if you like your explanations succinct and easy to understand, this book is not for you. If, on the other hand you prefer digging into the intricate and sometimes complicated world of WHY things work as they do, can separate and extrapolate voluminous often confusing data, then Quantum Sorcery Basics is definitely for you. But you might want to have a dictionary and an eTutor for Physics or Magick handy if either is new to you

However, don’t take my word for it. If the blurb piques your interest, by all means check this book out. As I said, it’s not that it doesn’t have some fine points; it’s just that I perceive through a slightly different lens. What may not work for me, may well work for you.

The Five Second Review:

Like the idea of positive visualization but it seems a little fluffy to you? Quantum Sorcery Basics will nail down the art of quantum mechanics for you with enough science to blow your hair back.

What I liked:
Quantum Sorcery Basics by Magus Zeta is partially theory and partially a practical guide to utilizing magick to have a positive impact on your daily life. What's this mean? I'm a bit of a data junkie. I like science, I like numbers, I like things that make sense to me - and string theory, quantum mechanics make more sense than just saying that someone should "think positively."
The author goes through personal experiences of 'sorcery' examples, practical uses for magick and the theory behind it all in this book - but this book is in NO WAY fluffy. It is completely hardcore. But you'll definitely understand the rules behind the laws of attraction better having read this book than you ever would have reading and re-reading the Secret.

What I wish was different:
This is a dense book with some really heavy examples. I wish that it was a little more accessible to the 'common man,' - which books like The Secret usually are. Other than that, the book is clear and smart.

Do I recommend this book:
If you are interested in quantum mechanics, get this book NOW.
If you are interested in improving your life or making big changes in your life. BUY IT.
If you want something fun to read on a Sunday afternoon --- well, I guess this would do, but I'd probably suggest a nice mystery.

A unique Hollywood memoir in recipes

Hollywood memoirs are a dime a dozen, some salacious, some introspective. Linda Evans, who has been on the radar since her days as ingenue Audra Barkley on TV's The Big Valley in the 1960's, has written a unique memoir titled Recipes for Life: My Memories, that incorporates her love of cooking with her tales of living and working in Hollywood.

I was a big fan of The Big Valley and later Dynasty, which was a monster hit in the 1980s, and always thought that Evans was not only beautiful but also talented. This delightful book has fifty recipes interspersed throughout the book, along with many photos and memories.

She begins the book with her childhood, and includes a fantastic photo of her parents who were professional ballroom dancers in the early 1940s. When times were tough, her mother made Hot Dog Stew, the first recipe in the book. (It's actually two recipes, as she shares her version and her sister's version.)

Evans' memories of her co-star Barbara Stanwyck enthralled me, as I am a fan. Stanwyck was a big star, and she gave much advice to the young Evans during their Big Valley days, in her inimitable way, as only she could do. Evans shares a recipe she created called Missy's Hobo Fillet, based on Chasen's Hobo Steak, a Stanwyck favorite. I'm definitely going to try this one.

John Derek was Evans' first big love, and she was devastated when he left her for 15 year-old Mary Cathleen Collins, soon to be known to the world as Bo Derek. Evans had many romances after that, and they are recounted here with stories and photos, along with recipes from parties she hosted and attended. There are many recipes from friends; whenever she ate something she liked, Evans always asked for the recipes, including three from John Wayne himself.

She shares memories of famous friends and colleagues, like Steve McQueen, Richard Burton, and a long time friendship with David Janssen of TV's The Fugitive, along with wonderful spontaneous photos of them at parties.

Evans' made a lifelong friend, Bunky, who eventually became her assistant and traveled with her on jobs around the world. Bunky is quite a character, and brought out the silly side in the usually reticent Evans.

One of the unique things that I remember about Evans is her friendship with John Derek's ex-wives. Ursula Andress, Bo Derek, first wife Pati and her daughter Sean, and Evans all became good friends, and spent a lot of time together, even celebrating his birthday all together.

The Dynasty days are covered, and Evans and screen hubby John Forsythe became good friends. Evans spent a lot of time with John and his wife, dining and vacationing together. She does address the Rock Hudson issue. He was guesting on Dynasty as a love interest for Evans, and was reticent to kiss her in a big scene. Soon she found out it was because he had AIDS. Reading her recollection of the story illuminates the feelings of that not-so-long-ago era.

This is a terrific way to write a memoir; Evans loves to cook (she even finished first on Hell's Kitchen, a London TV cooking competition show) and so wrapping her memories around recipes and fabulous photos is a natural. She shares her own recipes, and recipes of famous chefs like Julia Child and Barefoot Contessa Ina Garten, and many of them sound mouthwateringly delicious. The book is so beautiful, I will have to take care when using it in the kitchen; I don't want to get anything on the pages!

Recipes for Life is a great gift for anyone who loves Linda Evans, as well as anyone who enjoys cooking. Some of the recipes are definitely challenging, but there are some simpler ones in there as well. It reminds me of Paula Deen's autobiography from a few years back- a fascinating life remembered in recipes.

Linda's Story + Handed Down Recipes A+

What I Can Tell You: I was so excited to see read this book. I was a big fan of Linda's during her Dynasty days. I loved everything about her. Her hair, her poise, your history with John Derek. Reading this book was like stepping back into my own past while reading about hers. Complete with a candid, lovely story, beautiful personal photos and recipes handed down through generations, this book is a wonderful read.

There are so many stories that I remember from my own childhood and the Star magazines my grandparents had on the dining room table that I got to read the complete back story on. Very interesting book and well done. If you like autobiographies, this is the book for you. Linda is real reality she will always be Krystal Carrington to me.

Great read...
By Fifty Is The New Forty
I enjoyed both the memoir portion of this book AND the recipes! Actually there is a really nice mix of her own recipes, along with some that were shared with her over the years by stars and celebrities. Linda Evans is a warm and lovely woman who has forged her own path in life. She has a wonderful outlook and is an inspiration for all of us in or approaching 'midlife'. My interview with her for Fifty Is The New Forty was interesting. This book is definitely worth a read, and some of the recipes are really, really good! Recipes for Life: My Memories

An Important Discussion of ALL the Inputs Needed for Climatology Models

(Bias Alert: If being a denier means not blindly accepting the IPCC public results and recommendations at face value, then I am a denier. If it means totally rejecting all climate impacts of CO2 I am not,)

"The Neglected Sun" is a serious discussion of the influences on climate change - many of which are apparently ignored by the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) models. It goes into significant detail about natural influences on global warming including: solar effects (solar cycles, visible light, UV, magnetic field), low level cloud cover, water vapor, recurring climate features (ENSO, PDO, NAO), ozone, the ionosphere ,etc. - and CO2. Numerous references are provided for each chapter with embedded callouts. Information is presented fully and in detail. Deficiencies in the IPCC modeling approach and and its public statements are discussed in a way that will be viewed as relatively unbiased by anyone that is not likely to call someone a "denier".

In trying to get a realistic picture of what is coming in the climate change arena, I have read a lot of climatology and oceanography books, both good and bad, alarmist and dismissive, unbiased and political; this is one of the two or three best that I have come across so far. In my opinion, decisions about climate change are too important to be dictated in the political arena by governmental agencies and private interest groups. As this book indicates, we must return to true scientific method in climatology - with research data openly disseminated for review, allowed skepticism, and the ability of all interested scientists to attempt to replicate results in an open forum. This book describes a much wider spectrum of climate modeling inputs than is currently considered in IPCC models.. This review may be criticized by the claim that the predominance of climatologists are well aware of solar and other natural impacts on global warming - and I agree with that. Unfortunately these inputs have apparently been ignored in the heavily-edited models and public statements of the IPCC.

The book is slightly repetitive and not as well organized as it could be. In the Kindle edition there are also many areas of random spaces inserted into words, especially before a final "y".

This is not an easy read, relatively technical but if you stick with ...

This is not an easy read, relatively technical but if you stick with it you get a good sense on the many effects the sun has on our climate. It also explains the lack of those very significant climate effects in the computer models of our climate which are the sole source being used to form very expensive policies to avoid global warming.
