A story to lock in the lessons of "The Book of Secrets"

The Distant Memory conveys, in story form, the high points of the author's "The Book of Secrets". I don't know that it is "compulsively readable" as the book description recommends, but it certainly was an enjoyable read for the most part. I read it in two sittings, and actually looked forward to picking it up the second time. That said, some parts of the book are a bit rough.

An Incredibly Rewarding Book!

The Distant Memory is an incredibly rewarding book for readers who can appreciate the mystery of life's big questions, complex characters and both the lighter and darker aspects of humanity. For those who can't it's an equally intelligent, multilayered story that manages to present the struggles of the main character gracefully in a way that the reader can relate to without it feeling unnatural to the plot.
The first chapter isn't terribly exciting but the book picks up pace considerably by the third chapter when we find the main character on Earth leading the reader through a roller-coaster ride that, for me, ended with one of the most mind-blowing climaxes and conclusions I've ever read. Some of the ideas presented in this book (such as the Nexus, the 'three musketeers', 'tables and shares', etc) are so amazing that you might wonder why no one has thought of them before. I've also read the author's first book but this book was far more accessible for me, as a work of fiction.
Between the astute dialogue, intriguing story line, interesting concepts, and overall themes of the book there's a level of undeniable finesse in the Distant Memory that gets poignant ideas across effortlessly. Its beauty is that it manages to have so much to say about the mystery of our own selves in just a few hundred pages.
